This is Lucy.
Lucy is a duck who lives on Amy’s Farm.           She is a small duck with white                       feathers.  And she doesn’t say                     “Quack, quack” like a  normal duck                does.  Her voice comes out in a                     scratchy whisper that says,                         “Wohhhk, wohhhk.”  When you                       hear it,  you can almost                               imagine that she is asking                            you to take a walk with her.

This is the story of when Lucy                    first came to live on  Amy’s                        Farm.  Lucy was all  alone and                   Lucy wanted more than                             anything, a friend who would                    walk by her side wherever she                 went on the farm.
First Lucy waddled over to the four kittens who were wrestling in the grass.  They scampered around her and batted at her tail.  But then Nala, their mother, came over and they all ran to Nala to get a drink of milk...

  ...and Lucy was alone again.
Next, Lucy went over to the pig pen to see if Wilber would like to be her friend.  But pigs already have a friend, and they spend a lot of time with this friend.  Can you guess what a pig’s best friend is?  That’s right - food!  And Wilber was so busy eating his food that Lucy waddled away...
                                           ...and Lucy was alone again.
She stopped by the goose pen.
“Wohhhk, wohhhk,”  she
said in her quiet whisper.
But the geese honked
loudly and turned
their backs on her
and stuck their
beaks in the air
as if to say,
“You don’t look
like us, and you
don’t sound like
us, so just go
away!”

So Lucy did...

...and Lucy was
                alone again.
Next Lucy went over to the petting zoo where all the goats and sheep live.  Inside the pen she saw a bird!  It was Tammy Turkey.  Lucy waddled over and peeked through the fence and whispered over to Tammy, “Wohhhk, wohhhk.”  Maybe Tammy Turkey would like to be Lucy’s friend and walk around the farm with her.  But Tammy was quite surrounded by friends in the petting zoo.  Do you think she wanted to leave all of her friends to go on a walk with Lucy?

No she didn’t.

So Lucy waddled away...
  ...and Lucy was alone again.

After that Lucy found a very interesting animal.  It was a horse, but not a big, giant horse, this horse was quite small.  It looked like a baby but it wasn’t.  It was a very old horse named Granny. Granny was a miniature horse.  Lucy waddled up to Granny and said, “Wohhhk, wohhhk”.  And Granny very cheerfully whinnied back. This made Lucy very excited. She waddled closer and whispered her little quack again, “Wohhhk, wohhhk.”
Finally, had Lucy found a friend that would follow her and walk around the farm?  But when Lucy got close to Granny, she saw that Granny was very, very old.

She was so old that she could not walk very well  She was so old that her eyes didn’t work anymore; Granny was blind.  Lucy realized that she could come visit Granny in her pen, but that Granny would not be able to walk around the farm with Lucy.  So Lucy visited Granny for a while and then waddled away....                                                ....and Lucy was alone again.
Now Lucy was feeling a little bit desperate.  No animal that she met wanted to take a walk with her on the farm.
The next part of my story is about how Lucy made a very bad choice.  You see, she saw a mother hen with her three baby chicks.  And Lucy saw how nicely those babies followed their mother.  And Lucy thought to herself that those baby chicks would probably follow Lucy around the farm.  So guess what she did.  She chased the mama hen away and tried to make the babies follow her instead.  She wiggled her tail at the baby chicks and said, “Wohhhk, wohhhk.”  And she waddled a little ways to see if they would follow her.
But do you think that they did?
They did not.
Their mommy says, “Cluck, cluck”, not “Wohhhk, wohhhk”, and those baby chicks would not follow Lucy no matter how hard she tried.  The chicks ran back over to their mama hen....
                                                                                   ...and Lucy was alone again.
As Lucy walked away from the hen and her babies, the            sky grew dark and it started to rain.  At first it came                   down lightly, but soon it started to pour.
All of the horses and cows went under their                              shades.  Tammy Turkey went into her little house                      to stay dry.  The kittens went into the barn.                            The baby chicks went under their mama’s                                 feathers to stay warm and dry.
But Lucy just walked in the rain.  She didn’t                          mind the big raindrops falling.  Ducks actually                      love the rain and are quite happy when a storm                     comes.  But Lucy didn’t look very happy at all.                       When the raindrops fell on her head and rolled                 down her face, it looked like she was crying.

As Lucy waddled alone on the farm she saw
something.

She saw something that made her walk a little faster.  Soon she wasn’t waddle walking, she was waddle running!  And her wings were even flapping a little bit.  Up ahead she saw a puddle.  And can you guess who she saw in the puddle?
It was another duck!

While all the other animals
took cover in the storm, this duck
was splashing around in the puddle
                       as happy as can be.

                And before you knew it,
                           there was not just one
                             duck in that puddle,
                               there were two ducks.

                 Lucy found Jack the duck...

...and Lucy was not alone anymore.
